MAINE CATHOLIC CEMETERIES

“I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live" (John 11:25).

As Catholics, we believe death is not the end but merely the beginning of something much greater. As the words of the preface of the Mass of Christian Burial tell us: "For those who have been faithful, O Lord, life is not ended but merely changed."

That belief in the promise of the resurrection is celebrated at Maine Catholic Cemeteries. Catholic cemeteries are sacred places where the deceased are honored, respected, and prayed for each day. Being buried in a Catholic cemetery unites you to your Catholic family even after death.

Our Cemeteries

Within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, there are 83 Catholic cemeteries, including seven diocesan-operated cemeteries: Calvary Cemetery in South Portland, Holy Cross Cemetery in Yarmouth, Notre Dame Cemetery in Springvale, St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford, St. Joseph and St. Mary cemeteries in Biddeford, and St. Peter Cemetery in Lewiston.

The diocese also manages four parish cemeteries: Mount Hope Cemetery in Lewiston, St. Anne Cemetery in Lisbon, and Mount Calvary and Ss. Cyril & Methodius cemeteries in Lisbon Falls.

Each of our diocesan-owned and managed cemeteries has family advisors ready to assist you, whether you have recently lost a loved one or if you would like to make advance arrangements

Support Our Catholic Cemeteries

The Diocese of Portland owns or manages 11 cemeteries. The consecrated grounds ensure our beloved deceased have a dignified place to rest until our Lord’s return. Great care is taken to preserve these places of faith, hope, and love, and we invite you to join us in that work.  Please consider making a secure donation.
