Archives & Records

The purpose of our archives is to collect, preserve and make available to research the official records of the Diocese of Portland, which reflect the work of the Church in Maine. The Diocesan Archives seek to promote an accurate understanding of the origins, goals and accomplishments of the diocese, its parishes and its agencies, and to preserve those historical records which document the Church's presence and mission in the area.

The collection of the archives of the Portland Diocese consists of, but is not limited to, the Official Catholic directories, and the directory of the Diocese of Portland, bound copies of the diocesan newspaper, the "Church World" since its origin (1931-2005), history of parishes, financial records, deeds to land for parish property, and blueprints.

Some copyright restrictions apply.
