St. James School in Biddeford Ready for “March Madness”
BIDDEFORD---"March is always a long month in schools,” said Nancy Naimey, principal of St. James School in Biddeford. “So, we thought, “Let’s try to plan a month-long initiative that promotes our S.A.F.E. mission each day!’”
The result? “March Madness” and a schedule of events and activities that celebrate the school’s commitment to S.A.F.E. (Service, Academics, Faith, Excellence) with the students already looking forward to the memorable moments to come.
Highlights include:
March 1
Mardi Gras celebration with students wearing purple (justice), green (faith), and gold (power).
March 2
National Day of Unplugging as there will be no screen time during the school day with parents encouraged to eliminate screen time at home on this day.
March 3
National Anthem Day will see the children wearing red, white, and blue. The Star-Spangled Banner was declared the national anthem this week in 1931.
March 4
Students will do a good deed and the school community will enjoy the first Friday haddock supper of Lent.
March 7
National Cereal Day will be celebrated with cereal for the students at lunch.
March 8
On International Women’s Day, the students will learn about famous women in history and dress up like superheroes, pretend or real.
March 9
On National Meatball Day, wacky noodles will be served for lunch.
March 10
It’s International Day of Awesomeness and students will leave a note telling someone they’re awesome. It’s also Popcorn Lovers Day which means popcorn served at lunch.
March 11
The monthly Casual for a Cause Day, in which students bring donations for charitable organizations in exchange for dressing casually, will raise money for Camp Sunshine. Students will also participate in an extra recess.
March 14
It’s 3.14 which means National Pi Day. There will be pie in the cafeteria and a schoolwide paper chain will be created.
March 15
Students will dress up like a movie or TV character.
March 16
Early St. Patrick’s Day celebration (no school on March 17) and students will be wearing green socks.
March 18
Curl Up and Read in Your Pajamas Day will invite students to wear their pajamas to school.
March 21
On World Down Syndrome Day, students will wear bright and mismatched socks to support the 3-21 Foundation.
March 22
On World Water Day, students will drink an extra bottle of water.
March 23
Classroom sing-alongs will commemorate International Teach Music Week.
March 24
Students will celebrate Dress Like a Teacher Day by dressing up like a St. James teacher.
March 25
Oreo Day to celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation.
March 28
Dress Like You’re on Zoom Day will have the students dressing business on top and casual on the bottom.
March 29
Each grade will wear a different color to show their class spirit on Color Day.
March 30
Students will give each other compliments throughout the day to celebrate Compliment Day.
March 31
Students will wear a variety of colors and tie-dye to celebrate both National Crayon Day and Tie-Dye Day
