In celebration of the Feast Day of St. Joseph the Worker, St. Joseph Parish in Farmington will have a St. Joseph's Table on Sunday, April 30, in the parish hall.

The St. Joseph's Table, which will be held after the 10:30 a.m. Mass, will include a spaghetti dinner and a collection of grocery items for the food pantry.

A St. Joseph's Table is a custom that goes back to the Middle Ages when the people of Sicily, faced with a devastated drought, sought the intercession of St. Joseph. When their prayers were answered, they held a feast to thank the saint for bringing their prayers to Jesus. The event became a yearly tradition, often organized by wealthy families who would invite the poor and the sick.

It is traditional that a St. Joseph's Table include a corporal work of mercy, most especially feeding the hungry.
