Jubilee Basilica Pilgrimage for Homeschoolers

Monday, November 17 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Homeschool families are invited to make a pilgrimage during this jubilee year to the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Lewiston.

Schedule:

  • Meet in Bartlett Street parking lot at 3:00 PM.
  • Tour of the Basilica with Fr. Patrick Finn
  • Demonstration of the largest church organ in Maine with Scott Vaillancourt, Basilica organist
  • Eucharistic Adoration (30 minutes)
  • Veneration of a relic of the True Cross of Christ
  • Social time from 4:30-5:00 PM. Please bring a snack to share

The Basilica is many things: the most distinctive building in the City of Lewiston; the largest church building in Maine (and among the largest in New England); and—most of all—the spiritual home of thousands of Catholics and an ever-present reminder of the presence of God since its completion in 1936. Hear about the amazing faith of the French-Canadian immigrants whose struggles, patience, and great generosity built it. Take some time with your kids to let the Spirit-filled silence of this majestic temple of God seep into your heart.

“The people and their clergy were making plans and saying: ‘Let us build a temple of such beauty and serene majesty that the generations to come will look upon it as an impossible dream come true in the modest city of Lewiston, Maine.’” – Father Hervé Francois-Marie Drouin, O.P. (pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Parish, 1940-1952)
