Red Mass - October 21
The Red Mass, marking the start of the judicial year, will be celebrated by Bishop James Ruggieri at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress St. in Portland. A Solemn Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit, the Red Mass is a time to ask for God's blessing and the guidance of the Holy Spirit in the administration of justice. [More details]
Public Holy Hour for Vocations - October 24
A public Holy Hour for vocations will begin at 5 p.m. at Holy Martyrs of North America Church, 266 Foreside Road in Falmouth. It will be followed by a dinner for men discerning vocations.
Franciscan At Home Kick-Off Workshops - October, 25, 27, & 28
Catechists, catechetical leaders, youth ministers, and parishioners are invited to participate in Franciscan at Home program offered through the Franciscan Catechetical Institute. With the guidance of mentors, the program aims to help participants grow in self-knowledge with an eye towards benefiting the common good.
Franciscan at Home is a program of the Franciscan Catechetical Institute which is outreach of Franciscan University of Steubenville. It is being offered in the Diocese of Portland through the Office of Lifelong Faith Formation.
Kick-off Workshops
- October 25, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. Hyacinth Church Hall, 268 Brown Street in Westbrook
- October 27, in the hall beneath Holy Rosary Church, 34 Vaughn Street in Caribou
- October 28, 6 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the hall of St. Joseph Church, 531 N. Main Street in Brewer.
Dwell: Finding Sanctuary in Everyday Life - November 22
High school-aged teens are invited to the Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul, 122 Ash Street in Lewiston for this one-day Pilgrims of Hope Jubilee Retreat, which will include dynamic speakers, moments of reflection, adoration, and Mass celebrated by Bishop James Ruggieri.
The goal of the retreat is to give teens the space to encounter Jesus in silence, Scripture, the sacraments, and sacred community and then to send them forth as missionary disciples rooted in hope.

March for Life - January 22 - 24
The Diocese of Portland is sponsoring a bus trip to the March for Life in Washington, D.C. that will depart Maine on January 22 and return January 24. Departure points and times are still being determined. The March for Life itself takes place on January 23.
Men's Conference - March 7
Save the date! The Maine Catholic Men's Conference will be held at the St. John's Community Center, 43 Pleasant Street in Brunswick.
Women's Conference - April 18
Save the Date! The 13th Maine Catholic Women's Conference will be held at the St. John's Community Center, 43 Pleasant Street in Brunswick. The conference is a joy-filled opportunity for Catholic women ages 16 and older to come together to celebrate their Catholic faith.
REV Retreat - May 16
The Revitalization of the Eucharist and Vocations Retreat for high school-aged teenagers and young adults will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, 531 North Main Street in Brewer. This year's keynote speaker will be Father Columba Jordan, CFR, from Ireland. Other guest presenters include the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, the Dominican Sisters, the Sisters of Charity, Discalced Carmelite Friars, Father Aloysius Sarasin, OSB (a Benedictine monk), Father Brad Morin (Director of the Office of Vocations), and Katie & Jamie Derosier, who will speak on the vocation of marriage.
The REV retreat is intended to help teens discover who they were meant to be and to which vocation God is calling them.
There will be an overnight option this year for teens who are traveling.
