Catholic Prison Ministries Gathering

Friday, June 7 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Bishop James Ruggieri will come to the annual gathering of those involved with, or curious to learn more about, ministries in Maine’s jails and prisons.  Discussion will also focus on activities, such as helping those returning to society after incarceration, or being present to the families of those in jail or prison. The gathering will be held at the Sacred Heart Hall, 7 Summer Street, Hallowell, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, June 7. Lunch is included.

Sponsored by Parish Social Ministry of Catholic Charities Maine, the gathering is an opportunity to connect with others in these ministries and to learn about the various aspects that flow from Christ’s call to visit the imprisoned (Matthew 25).

Deacon Tom Blatz of Wiscasset will speak about the concept of Restorative Justice, a practice to address accountability and promote healing for victims and communities impacted by crime. Bruce Noddin, director of the Maine Re-entry Network, will provide updates on their work and other developments in their community collaboration work. Father Dustin Feddon, a Florida pastor and prison chaplain, will speak on accompaniment in a pre-recorded talk, a component of the spiritual formation offered by the Catholic Prison Ministry Coalition.

All are welcome to attend.
