Candlemas Day - Kennebunk

In celebration of the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, also known as Candlemas Day, candles will be distributed and blessed prior to the 8 a.m. Mass at St. Mary Church in Wells and the 9:15 a.m. Mass at St. Martha Church in Kennebunk. All will then process into Mass with them.

People are also invited to bring candles from home to be blessed.

The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord commemorates the time, 40 days after the birth of Christ, when Mary went to the Temple to be purified and to present her firstborn son to God. It has been celebrated with the blessing of candles for centuries because Christ is the light who came into the world to dispel the darkness.

St. Mary Church is located at 236 Eldridge Road in Wells, and St. Martha Church is at 30 Portland Road in Kennebunk.
