Candlemas Day - Jay

In celebration of the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, also known as Candlemas Day,  the candles that will be used in the upcoming year at both St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay and St. Joseph Church in Farmington will be blessed at the February 2, 6 p.m. Mass at St. Rose. Parishioners are also encouraged to bring candles from home to be blessed at this Mass.

Blessing candles on this day is a tradition that goes back centuries and is a celebration of Christ coming into the world to dispel the darkness. It is celebrated 40 days after Jesus' birth, commemorating the occasion when Mary went to the Temple to be purified and to present her firstborn son to God.
