Candlemas Day - Jay

In celebration of the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, also known as Candlemas Day, the candles that will be used in the upcoming year at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay will be blessed at the February 2, 8:30 a.m. Mass. Parishioners are also encouraged to bring candles from home to be blessed at this Mass.
Blessing candles on this day is a tradition that goes back centuries and is a celebration of Christ coming into the world to dispel the darkness. It is celebrated 40 days after Jesus' birth, commemorating the occasion when Mary went to the Temple to be purified and to present her firstborn son to God.
