Candlemas Celebration - Cherryfield

St. Peter the Fisherman Parish will commemorate Candlemas with celebrations at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Machias and St. Michael Church in Cherryfield on Friday, February 2.

Through the blessing and lighting of candles, Candlemas celebrates the light of Christ coming into the world. It occurs 40 days after the birth of Christ, commemorating the time when Mary brought Jesus, her firstborn son, to the Temple in Jerusalem to present him to God.

On February 2, a candle mass will be held at St. Michael Church, 51 Elm Street in Cherryfield, at 8:30 a.m. Then, at 5 p.m., there will be a candlelight procession and evening prayer with adoration and benediction at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 8 Free Street in Machias. Parishioners are invited to bring their candles to the Mass and prayer service to be blessed.
