Director of Cemeteries

The Diocese of Portland is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to serve as Director of Cemeteries. This leadership role is responsible for the overall management and oversight of 11 Catholic cemeteries located in central and southern Maine. The successful candidate will ensure operations are financially sustainable and conducted in alignment with both civil regulations and Church law, maintaining the dignity and integrity of Christian burial practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Direct all aspects of cemetery operations and current/long-term planning
• Oversee financial sustainability, budget creation, and analysis
• Ensure compliance with applicable legal, ethical, and religious standards
• Uphold respectful and sacred burial procedures in every location

Qualifications:

• 3–5 years of cemetery management or related leadership experience
• Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) preferred
• Strong background in business management and financial analysis
• Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
