St. Martin DePorres/St. Catherine of Sienna Shelters is looking for female, live-in shelter attendants (2) to work with female homeless residents.

The shelter attendant supports the St. Martin de Porres and St. Catherine of Siena Residences' mission of assisting men and women from homelessness to independence by providing direct service and supervision to program participants, helping them adapt to community living and program policies and ensuring effective operation of the shelter program. 

The shift is expected to be 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The first attendant will work three days a week, the second attendant will work four days a week. The teams will then switch schedules. Weekends and holidays required. Experience working in human services preferred. Room and board and meals provided, utilities included and $300 stipend. 

Essential functions include (but not limited to):

  • Maintain a safe, supportive environment within the shelter
  • Monitor facility to maintain safety of guests and shelter space
  • Assist guests with shelter routines
  • Support guests in following all shelter procedures
  • Help guests work through conflict with others living in the shelter
  • Keep shelter clean, restock supplies, and complete shelter and guests' laundry
  • Communicate observations and interactions with guests to shelter and guests' daily logs
  • Check volunteer schedules (cooks). Be ready to provide dinner if a no show (St. Martin only).
  • Intervene in guest crises
  • Complete documentation for all donations and forward information to the administrative office
  • Basic maintenance, organization and cleaning of facilities
  • Treat guests with respect and dignity in sensitive manner
  • Participate in program, agency meetings and relevant trainings, as required. As well as inter-agency groups that provide assistance and advocacy to homeless individuals
  • Adhere to agency policy, procedures and professional code of ethics
  • Complete all duties as assigned. Other duties as required
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work without on-site supervision
  • Have good listening and communication skills
  • Be understanding of guest needs and issues
  • Other duties as assigned
