St. Thomas School Students in Sanford Win State Essay and Poster Competitions
SANFORD---Two students at St. Thomas School in Sanford have been named the state winners in Elks Club poster and essay competitions, while a third received state honors as well.
Griffin Bean, a fourth grader, and Margaret Sanborn, a sixth grader (both pictured below), were named the winners of two separate competitions. Griffin’s poster won the Elks Drug Awareness Poster contest that was open to all fourth and fifth graders in Maine, while Margaret’s “American Dream” essay won the Elks Drug Awareness Essay contest that invited all sixth, seventh, and eighth graders across the state to participate. In addition, Bre’Ann Molina, a fourth grader, was honored for her drug awareness poster.
“These students will attend a special recognition ceremony in Auburn in May, and their work will be submitted to the national level,” said Ericka Sanborn, principal of St. Thomas.
National winners will be announced in the first week of July.
