Father Fernand Paquet, M.M.
Father Fernand Paquet, M.M., of Biddeford, Maine, died at Mission St. Teresa’s Residence in Ossining, New York, on February 9, 2015. He was 86 years old and a Maryknoll priest for 58 years.
After ordination on June 9, 1956, Father Paquet was assigned to Maryknoll’s Development department where he did fundraising and vocations recruitment in the Brookline, Massachusetts, area (1956-58). In 1958, Father Paquet was assigned to Korea, where he spent his entire missionary career serving in eight parishes within the Inchon Diocese. Father Paquet’s last assignment was in Song Eui Dong Parish. Although he retired in 1999, Father Paquet continued living and working in Korea, covering two outstations on the weekends in Kang Wha.
In 2009, Father Paquet was assigned to the Senior Missioner Community with residence in Biddeford, Maine. In 2011, Father Paquet moved to Mission St. Teresa’s in Ossining, New York.
Father Paquet was born on October 10, 1928, in St. Honore de Shenley, Quebec, Canada. He attended St. Andre School in Biddeford. Father Paquet entered St. Hyacinth Seminary, Quebec, in 1944, where he completed his high school studies and earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 1951. Later that year, Father Paquet entered Maryknoll Novitiate in Bedford, Massachusetts.
Father Paquet is survived by three brothers: Rev. Hubert Paquet, Roger Paquette and Gerard Paquette, all of Biddeford. He is also survived by three sisters: Marguerite Poirier, Mrs. Theresa Gagnon and Mrs. Helen Berube, all of Biddeford.
A Christian burial for Father Paquet was held in Maryknoll Society Cemetery.
