Sister Dorina Chasse, SCIM
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Dorina Chasse, SCIM, who passed away on August 14, 2020, at the age of 92.
A native of Madawaska, Sister Dorina, formerly known as Sister St. Julie-des-Anges, was the oldest of nine children born to Eddie and Artheline Lausier Chasse.
She entered the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, also known as the Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec, on August 25, 1946, in Biddeford. After earning a degree from St. Joseph’s College of Maine, Sister Dorina spent her life working in education, teaching in Biddeford and Connor, Maine, and then in South Africa, where she lived and served for 34 years, fulfilling her dream of being a missionary.
In 1995, she received an honorary doctoral degree from Grinnell College in Iowa in recognition of her many years educating African women and girls.
After she returned from South Africa, she provided many services to members of her community. She frequently attended interreligious events, special Masses, and other celebrations. She was a quiet, peaceful, supportive presence.
Sister Dorina will be laid to rest on Wednesday, August 19, at St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at a later date, She is survived by three sisters and two brothers. Please pray for them and the sisters in her community.
