Brother André Louis Millette, FIC
Please remember in your prayers Brother André Louis Millette, a Brother of Christian Instruction, who died peacefully on Saturday, August 22, at age 94. A Biddeford native, Brother André was the son of Edmund and Alice (Menard) Millette, the third of 10 children. At age 13, he became a student of the Brothers on Christian Instruction in Alfred, where he entered the novitiate in August 1941. He professed his perpetual vows in 1947.
Brother André spent his career in education, serving in Fall River, Mass., at St. Ignatius School in Sanford and St. Louis School in Biddeford, and in Detroit, Michigan. His special love was the Franco-American Youth Association.
In his later years, he loved to work in the brothers’ workshop restoring furniture and other items.
Brother André was the recipient of many honors including the Fall River Diocesan Marian Medal, Fall River’s Franco-American Man of the Year recognition, an award from the Jesuits Education Association, and two Connolly H.S. yearbook dedications (’76 and ’84).
He is survived by a younger brother John and his wife Barbara of Houston, TX, as well as many nieces and nephews. Please pray for them and for the members of his international religious family, the Brothers of Christian Instruction.
Due to the pandemic, the wake with restricted viewing will take place on August 25, 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Brothers’ Notre Dame Chapel in Alfred. The funeral Mass and burial will be private.
This most beloved and admired gentle religious will be sincerely missed. May his soul and the soul of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
