Sister Renée Turcotte, OP
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Renée Turcotte, OP, who died September 1, 2020, at age 86. Sister Renée was a native of Auburn, the daughter of John and Mathilda (Lafrance) Turcotte. After graduating from St. Dominic High School in 1952, she joined the Dominican Sisters, making her first religious profession in 1954.
Sr. Renée spent years as an educator, serving at St. Dominic’s Institute in Brookline, MA, Our Lady of the Rosary School in Sabattus, St. Rita’s School in Staten Island, NY, St. Peter School in Lewiston, and at schools in Phoenix, AZ and Gallup, NM. She then became a librarian at St. Peter School and later at Regina High School in Iowa City, Iowa.
Sister Renée also studied in Rome and spent one year in Casablanca, Morocco. In 1985, she began a second career as a parish pastoral associate, first serving at parishes in Texas, New Mexico, and Montana, and then at St. Charles Borromeo in Brunswick. In 1999, she returned to the Lewiston area where she served at the Basilica of Ss. Peter & Paul as a sacristan, lector, extraordinary minister of holy Communion and member of the French choir. She had a great love and devotion to the Eucharist which she shared with those she encountered, including the sick and homebound.
Sister has now found peace in the arms of the Lord she faithfully served for many years. Please pray for the consolation of her natural and religious families and the friends she leaves behind. May her soul and the soul of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
