Sister Madeleine Grandmaison, CSJ
Please pray for the response of the soul of Sr. Madeleine Grandmaison, a member of the Sisters of St Joseph of Lyon, who died peacefully and quietly at Mt. St. Joseph on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, just shy of reaching 89 years old.
Sister Madeleine was a teacher, an LPN, a missionary, and a pastoral leader, as well as an organizer of activities for senior citizens. She accomplished all these ministries and careers in a quiet peaceful way. She was a prayerful person of few (if any) words.
Sister Madeleine taught at St. Joseph’s Day Care in Auburn. St. Anthony School in Jackman, St. Rose of Lima School in Jay, St. John the Baptist School in Winslow, and Sacred Heart School in Auburn. She also served in Benin, West Africa, and after returning to Maine, she became administrator of St. Joseph’s Provincialate in Winslow. She then became a certified nursing assistant and later an LPN, working at hospitals and at long-term senior housing facilities. Later, she worked for Home Resources of Maine as PCA/Homemaker in the Lewiston-Auburn area. In Lisbon, where she lived for two years, she served as chaplain of the Lisbon Senior Citizens.
Sister Madeleine died the way she lived, quietly and peacefully following a brief illness.
Wake and Funeral: Viewing of the body will begin on Wednesday, May 26, at 9:00 a.m. at Notre Dame Church, 116 Silver St, Waterville with the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewiston immediately after the funeral Mass.
