Young adults gather at the State House to publicly pray the Rosary

More than 30 people gathered in the Hall of Flags at the State House on Thursday, February 26, to publicly pray the Rosary.

The Rosary Rally was organized by the Prince of Peace Young Adult Ministry group in Lewiston and was an opportunity to pray for the needs of our state and our world as well as to pray for sacredness of all human life.

"I came for a chance to pray the Rosary in a public setting, especially for our state and especially considering the direction our state is going. I think our state needs a lot of prayer right now, and I'm happy to be Catholic publicly,” said Ciara Spofford, from Prince of Peace Parish.

“I'm here because I strongly think that the right to life issue is the most important issue of our times. I think if you don't protect human life, then we’re just blind leading the blind. So, we need to stand up for the dignity of human life from conception to natural death. And I think prayer and fellowship and community are the best ways we can achieve this goal,” said Kevin Koski from Augusta, who attends St. Joseph Oratory in Portland, as well as the churches of Prince of Peace Parish and St. Michael Parish in Augusta.

Among those joining in praying the Rosary was Bishop James Ruggieri, who urged those present to not lose hope despite the challenging times in which we live. Other speakers included Representative John Ducharme from Madison and representatives from Maine Right to Life, Maine Needs Fatima, and the Knights of Columbus.

The afternoon concluded with the praying of the Litany of Humility.
