Over 40 Benedicta Children Learn About Daniel’s Courage in Captivity at Successful Vacation Bible School
BENEDICTA---With the halls and walls at St. Benedict Church decorated by volunteers and staff, over 40 children in Benedicta were able to spend a week walking the “cobblestone streets” in Babylon, learn about Daniel’s courage, and grow on their own faith journeys during the Vacation Bible School on June 26-30 (additional pictures below).
“Volunteers guided the kids on a trip to visit Daniel and join him on the other side of his ordeal in the lion’s den,” said Lisa Ammerman, a member of the parish staff. “This is the 29th year the parish has presented a Vacation Bible School like this. We are so grateful to all the families and volunteers for this wonderful journey to Babylon.”
Fr. Dominic Savio, HGN, administrator of the parish, diocesan seminarian Matthew Valles, and others guided participants through Daniel’s capture and story, learning that when things change, when you need help, when you’re afraid, or when you’re lonely, God is with you. The week concluded with a beautiful children’s Mass and a closing celebration that included a barbecue, games, and more.
Similar Vacation Bible School experiences have been offered this summer in Winslow, Augusta, Lincoln, Westbrook, Scarborough, Fort Kent, and Brewer, with events in Gray, Rumford, Sanford, and Dover-Foxcroft still to come. For more information, visit www.portlanddiocese.org/vacation-bible-schools.
