Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception to enhance Sunday Mass schedule

PORTLAND---Beginning Sunday, October 15, there will be two additional options for those who attend Mass at the Portland Peninsula & Island Parishes. Masses at 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. will now be celebrated in the chapel of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, located at 307 Congress Street.

“The goal of these Masses is to provide some additional options for those whose work, travel, and recreation make it difficult for them to attend Sunday Mass,” said Father Seamus Griesbach, rector of the cathedral and pastor of the other four Portland Peninsula & Island Parishes. “The 7 a.m. Mass is early for most but will serve those who need to get an early start on the day. The 7:30 p.m. Mass is timed to be an option for those who are working the 12-hour shifts at our hospitals.”

With the added times, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception will now offer six weekend Masses and, together, the Portland Peninsula & Island Parishes will provide 12 opportunities for the faithful to join in celebrating the Eucharist.

Along with the Masses, there will also be additional times for the sacrament of reconciliation. Beginning Saturday, October 14, confessions will be offered at the cathedral on weekdays from 11 a.m. to noon, on Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and on Sundays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Confessions are also offered at St. Peter Church in Portland on Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
