Festivals of Lessons and Carols planned for Ellsworth, Jay, Lewiston, Old Town, Portland, South Portland, and Yarmouth
The Festival of Lessons and Carols, a celebration of the hope of the Advent season, will be presented by several parishes this December. An Advent tradition dating to the late 19th century, the festival is a blend of Scripture readings, prayers, and carols and choral music that tell the story of salvation. The nine readings or "lessons” begin with the fall of man in the Garden of Eden and continue through the birth of Christ. The Festival of Lessons and Carols is a prayerful and joyous way to prepare for the celebration of Christmas.
