Tenebrae Service - Greenville

A Tenebrae Service will be held on the Wednesday of Holy Week at Holy Family Church in Greenville.

Tenebrae services date back centuries and grew out of a combination of night prayer and early morning prayer, with an additional focus on the Passion of our Lord.

Services traditionally are held in candlelight and include a series of readings.  During the service, candles extinguished one by one as those in attendance reflect on Christ's suffering and death. Often, one candle remains symbolic of the light of Christ which cannot be extinguished.
