Pisanki - Traditional Easter Egg Making - Portland

Sunday, March 17 from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM

Learn how to make pisanki, intricately decorated Easter eggs, at St. Louis Church in Portland on Saturday, March 17.

The Polish custom of decorating eggs for Easter is a centuries old tradition. “Written” with designs rich in symbolism such as rebirth, beauty, and fertility, these eggs are often exchanged among family and friends on Easter morning. Traditionally, pisanki are created during Lent. One process involves drawing on eggs using melted bee’s wax and dipping into various dyes to produce colorful, almost mysterious results.

There will be a simplified children’s session from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. and an adult wax resist session from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. All materials will be supplied. Come enjoy a prayerful “writing” of an Easter Egg as part of your Lenten season! Refreshments will be served.
