Mass in Millinocket in Memory of Bishop Joseph

A Mass in memory of Bishop Joseph Gerry, OSB, will be celebrated at St. Martin of Tours Church in Millinocket on Saturday, July 22, at 11 a.m. 

Bishop Joseph, who died on July 2 at the age of 94, was a native son of Millinocket and attended St. Martin when he was growing up. His brother-in-law and some nieces and nephews still live in the community and will be in attendance at the memorial Mass. Father Dominic Savio, HGN, administrator of Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, which includes St. Martin of Tours, will be the celebrant.

Bishop Joseph was installed as the tenth Bishop of Portland on February 21, 1989, and served until 2004, at which time he retired from active ministry.

In addition to the Mass in Millinocket, the Diocese of Portland will hold a memorial Mass for Bishop Joseph on August 3 at 2 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland. Bishop Robert Deeley will be the celebrant.
