Celebration of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Presque Isle

Friday, September 8 from 5:30 PM to 6:15 PM

In commemoration of the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a special Mass will be celebrated on September 8 at 5:30 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 333 Main Street in Presque Isle. The Mass will be followed at 6:15 p.m. by a potluck supper and then ice cream at the nearby Knights of Columbus Hall

The Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the oldest Marian feasts. Its origins are traced back to sixth-century Jerusalem, where tradition holds that Mary was born to Saints Joachim and Ann. The feast started to be celebrated in Rome in the 8th century.

The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is one of only three birthdays on the Church calendar, the others being those of St. John the Baptist (June 24) and Jesus himself (Christmas).
