Director of Human Resources

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland has an immediate opening for a Director of Human Resources. The Diocese covers the entire State of Maine with 48 parishes, 8 schools, and approximately 950 direct or indirect employees. 

This position provides all the Human Resource Administration and consulting for the Diocese. 

The HR director is responsible for:

• ensuring compliance to all employment laws and diocesan policies
• employee relations
• employee contact regarding all matters of employment

The position is located in Portland, Maine with 25% travel within the State required.  This is not a remote position. 

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of human resource generalized experience, including:
  • recruiting
  • hiring
  • orientation
  • employee relations
  • organization development
• practicing Catholic with knowledge of the Church’s processes and structure.

Strong candidates will also have:

• knowledge of current recruiting and hiring best practices (including LinkedIn, Indeed, or other digital recruiting tools)
• experience working with multiple locations.

Since this position works closely with parishes and diocesan staff, the individual must be a practicing Catholic with knowledge of the Church’s processes and structure.  The HR Director must have exceptional communication skills, sensitivity for employees and a strong understanding of organizational dynamics.
