Pope Leo XIV has proclaimed a special Jubilee Year of Saint Francis, running from January 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027, to mark the 800th anniversary of the saint’s passing into eternal life. Bishop Ruggieri has designated St. Mary of the Visitation Parish in Houlton as one of three sites in Maine that have been named a holy site for this Jubilee.  Pilgrims who come to us in prayer may receive the graces of the year, and we have a joyful opportunity to open our doors wide.

In celebration of the Feast of Saint Mary Magdalene, solemn chanted vespers, adoration, and Benediction will be held on July 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Basilica of Ss. Peter & Paul in Lewiston.

The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception commemorates the day that Mary was conceived without the stain of original sin. The feast occurs on December 8. It is the patronal feast of the United States and of the Diocese of Portland.

On the Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord, we celebrate the birth of Christ. It is the feast of the Incarnation, the feast of God becoming flesh. The Christmas season is a time to reflect on the gift of salvation that is born with him, including the fact that Christ was born to die for us.
