Position Summary:
The Pastoral Catechetical Leader (PCL) is a qualified minister who assists the pastor and the Education and Formation Faith Ministry in meeting the faith and sacramental needs of the parish in accordance with canon law and diocesan policies and guidelines. This is a part-time position (25 hours/week).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares the faith formation calendar in collaboration with the Education and Faith Formation ministry.
- Works with pastor and/or Finance Council in preparation of budget related to this position.
- Attends faith Formation meetings.
- Participates in professional development workshops as needed and required for this position.
- Assures that all catechists and volunteers participate in the Protecting God’s Children Program.
Parish Coordinator of Small Groups Ministry for Adults and High School Teens
- With the priests of the parish, help to select parish small group offerings from FORMED.org
- Promote offerings using all media forms
- Support existing small groups with weekly communication with leaders
- Maintain database of all small group leaders and members
- Prepare small group publications and guides
- Wherever possible facilitate a weekly adult group
- Help recruit and train small group leaders
Other responsibilities:
- Assists the pastor and catechists in the selection of instructional material and helps catechists prepare curriculum material for their classes.
- Purchases materials for the program in accord with the parish budget.
- Uses media to teach, invite and welcome.
- Recruits catechists with the help of the pastor/priest Delegate and Education and Formation of Small Christian Communities etc.
- Registers all people young and old into the programs for initiation including ongoing formation in the faith and keeps records of enrollment.
- Communicates to the parish at large the vision, policies, enrollment figures and needs of the program.
- Plans and coordinates sacramental retreats for students, parents and catechists.
- Provides regular in-service programs for catechists and encourages certification. Recruit and help train volunteer Catechists to help lead the sessions and table facilitators to lead table discussions with families
- Support Catechists/table facilitators by visiting and observing small groups while in session, reviews lessons weekly with them prior to the sessions and checks in with them after each session.
- Distribute materials from the LFF office to each Catechist and people involved in the formation of the faithful.
- Help register families at Parish of the Precious Blood for annual catechesis.
- Works with the Faith Formation Ministry and Worship and Spirituality ministry to involve our children as well as the youth in the Eucharistic celebration.
- Plans and coordinates the preparation for celebration of the sacraments of initiation (Confirmation &1st Communion) with the pastor and appropriate foundational ministries.
- Works with the parish all foundational ministries and the pastor.
- Ability to teach classes as needed
- Other duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications:
- BA, preferably ministry-related discipline; or BA with leadership experience in ministry
- Fully initiated Catholic, engaged in the life of the Church
- Experience with computer literacy and social media
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Willingness to participate in trainings and ministry certifications to enhance this leadership position
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to keystroke 1-3 hours per day with reasonable breaks.
- Ability to sit or stand for 1-3 hours per day.
- Ability to communicate with catechist and parishioners in an effective manner.
- Ability to bend, stoop and kneel occasionally.
