Saint Dominic Academy in Auburn Announces New Principal
Saint Dominic Academy has named Kathy Martin as the new principal of its Auburn campus. She will assume the role in the fall at the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year. Martin has had a distinguished career of more than 20 years as an educator and leader. Since 2017, she has served as the assistant superintendent and director of curriculum, assessment and instruction in Regional School Unit #4 covering Sabattus, Litchfield and Wales.
Martin is on the Saint Dominic Academy Board of Directors and is also a graduate of the school.
“Becoming the principal of St. Dominic Academy is more than a professional milestone for me; it's a heartfelt return. As a former student, a current parent, and having chaired the school board for the past few years, this is a homecoming. I am honored to lead an institution that has been a significant part of my life and continues to hold a special place in my family's heart,” Martin said.
“Together, let's strengthen our commitment to the four pillars - Study, Prayer, Community, and Service - ensuring that they remain the cornerstones of our students' educational journey,” she said.
Martin will succeed Alanna Stevenson who has served as principal since 2019. Stevenson was recently named the new principal at St. Michael School in Augusta.
“I am excited to welcome Kathy back to lead the school that started her educational journey. Intertwining experience with leadership, Kathy embodies a legacy of a dedicated and a profound understanding of Saint Dominic Academy’s excellence," said Maine Catholic Schools Superintendent Marianne Pelletier.
She continued, “As a returning graduate and the third generation of her family to attend Saint Dominic Academy, she is rooted in our community. Her presence symbolizes not just continuity, but a steadfast commitment to fostering growth, distinction and passion to see Saint Dominic Academy students thrive,”
In 2023, Martin was honored with the Maine School Superintendents Association’s Outstanding Leadership Award. While serving in RSU #4, Martin has also served as the affirmative action and Title IX officer, Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) coordinator, and food service director.
Previously, Martin was the principal of Sabattus Primary and Libby-Tozier schools from 2014 to 2017. Martin began her career as a second and third grade teacher at Fairview School in Auburn, serving from 2002 to 2014. She was an educational consultant for various districts throughout the state from western Maine to Downeast.
Martin graduated from Rivier College in Nashua, NH with a Bachelor of Arts in human development, elementary education, and general special education. Martin holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Southern Maine in Gorham.
