Prayer Service and Mass to be held for those healing from the loss of a child
LEWISTON/AUGUSTA---People from all faith traditions are invited to gather for a special prayer service in Lewiston on Sunday, October 15, for those healing from the loss of a child, whether through miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, or other causes. October 15 is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.
The service is a recognition of the long-lasting grief and sorrow experienced by those who have lost a child, and it provides an opportunity for friends, family, and others to gather to support them, to pray for consolation and healing, and to remember the precious lives lost.
The prayer service will be held at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Church, 1080 Lisbon Street in Lewiston. It is sponsored by Project Rachel, a ministry of the Diocese of Portland, in collaboration with Prince of Peace Parish.
In addition to the service in Lewiston, St. Michael Parish in Augusta will hold a Mass of Remembrance on Tuesday, October 17, to remember babies and children lost through miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, sudden infant death syndrome, illness, trauma, or injury. The Mass will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 41 Western Avenue in Augusta. People who have lost a child at any age, as well as those who wish to support them, are encouraged to attend.
