Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
“The mystery enclosed in the person of Mary is the very mystery of the Word of God incarnate." - Pope Francis
On September 8, we celebrate the birth or the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, destined to become the mother of Our Savior. It is one of only three birthdays the church celebrates, the others being that of St. John the Baptist and of Jesus himself.
The Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is commemorated ninth months after we celebrate Mary's Immaculate Conception (December 8). There is no mention in the Bible of Mary's birth, but according to tradition, her parents were Saints Anne and Joachim.
