New leadership structure announced for Saint Dominic Academy’s Auburn and Lewiston Campuses
The Diocese of Portland is pleased to announce that Kathy Martin has been named head of school for all of Saint Dominic Academy (pre-K through grade 12) in addition to her role as principal of the Auburn campus. Martin will oversee both campuses’ development, enrollment, budget management, and facilities functions. Dawn Theriault will continue to serve as Saint Dominic Academy’s Lewiston campus principal and will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and educational programming at the Lewiston location.
“St. Dom's has a storied legacy of quality Catholic education in Maine. Kathy and Dawn are working diligently this summer to ensure that plans for a great school year are in place for all our students and families,” Maine Catholic Schools Superintendent Shelly Wheeler said. “St. Dom's will thrive under this strengthened new leadership. It's a great time to be a Saint!”
“I am deeply honored and humbled by this opportunity to serve as the Saint Dominic Academy head of school. Our schools have always been a beacon of excellence and faith, and I am committed to upholding these values as we continue to inspire and educate our students,” Martin said. “Together, with our dedicated staff, supportive community, and wonderful students, I am excited to lead our academy into a bright and promising future.”
Saint Dominic Academy named Kathy Martin as the new principal of its Auburn campus in March 2024. She has a distinguished career of more than 20 years as an educator and leader. Martin succeeds Alanna Stevenson who has served as principal since 2019. Stevenson is the new principal at St. Michael School in Augusta.
“Kathy's blend of experience, expertise, and unwavering dedication to education and to St. Dom's will be an asset to the academic, personal, and spiritual development of the students and staff,” Theriault said. “Her dedication to the mission ensures Saint Dominic Academy will thrive and continue to provide the exceptional Catholic education that the community has come to expect. Kathy’s vision of the future is filled with promise. Working alongside her will be a true privilege.”
Martin is a Saint Dominic Academy graduate and the third generation of her family to attend Saint Dominic Academy. Martin’s two children are currently students at Saint Dominic Academy. Before returning to Saint Dominic Academy, she had served as the assistant superintendent and director of curriculum, assessment and instruction in Regional School Unit #4 covering Sabattus, Litchfield and Wales.
Saint Dominic Academy is a Catholic co-educational, college preparatory day school under the patronage of the Diocese of Portland for students in grades pre-K to 12. Saint Dominic Academy serves nearly 475 students with just over 200 pre-K through fifth grade students at the Lewiston campus and 265 sixth through 12th grade students in Auburn.
