Tenebrae Service in Lewiston

A Tenebrae Service will be held on March 25, the Monday of Holy Week, at 7 p.m. at the Basilica of Ss. Peter & Paul, 122 Ash Street in Lewiston. 

Tenebrae services date back centuries and grew out of a combination of night prayer and early morning prayer, with an additional focus on the Passion of our Lord. Tenebrae is Latin for shadows or darkness. Services traditionally are held in candlelight, with candles extinguished one by one as those in attendance reflect on Christ's suffering and death.
