Sister Viola Lausier, SCIM

Sister Viola Lausier, SCIMPlease pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Viola Lausier, SCIM, a member of the Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec, who passed away on July 9, 2023, at St. Joseph Convent in Biddeford. She was 98 years old.

Sister Viola, formerly known as Sister St. Benedicta, was born in Grand Isle, the second in a family of 16 children born to Thaddie Lausier and Mable Michaud Lausier.

She entered the Congregation of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, also known as the Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec, in August 1940 at the age of 16.

Sister began her ministry in education, serving as either an elementary school teacher of school principal in Lawrence and Methuen, Mass, and in Caribou.

She then studied business administration and worked as business manager at St. Ann’s Home in Methuen, Mass., before being transferred to St. André Home in Biddeford where she first worked as a group life worker and later became finance director, helping to secure state funding to support the women and children served by St. André.

Sister Viola long worked tirelessly for children and women in need continuing this ministry well into her nineties. In 2011, her accomplishments were recognized when she received one of the “Great Women of Maine” awards.

Sister Viola also served on her community's Provincial Council, on various SCIM corporate boards, and as local superior and treasurer.

Visitng Hours will be at St. Joseph Convent, 409 Pool St on Wednesday, July 12, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, July 13, from 9:00 am to 10:30 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be for family members only at St. Joseph Convent.
