The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland is seeking a compassionate and faith-filled Lay Hospital Chaplain to serve Catholic patients and their families at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Working in collaboration with the Diocese of Portland's Ministerial Services Office, the hospital’s Spiritual Care Department, and Catholic priest chaplains, this important ministry provides pastoral care, spiritual support, and a visible Catholic presence within the hospital setting. The chaplain will accompany patients through times of illness, crisis, healing, and transition, helping to identify spiritual and sacramental needs while offering comfort rooted in the Catholic faith.

This part-time position (24 hours per week, Monday, Tuesday, and Friday) includes visiting newly admitted Catholic patients, responding to pastoral care requests, coordinating sacramental ministry with assigned priest chaplains, maintaining appropriate patient records, and supporting Catholic volunteers who assist with hospital ministry. The successful candidate will be a practicing Catholic in good standing, able to work collaboratively with hospital staff, clergy, volunteers, patients, and families in a professional healthcare environment. Candidates should have completed at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or possess equivalent institutional ministry experience. Prior experience in healthcare or pastoral ministry is preferred.
