Ars et Magnifica Humanitas - Gorham

In response to Pope Leo XIV's encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Westbrook will present Ars et Magnifica, the Prophetic Works of Beethoven, Picasso, and Spielberg.

In his encyclical, the pope noted a symphony, a painting, and a motion picture as having "almost prophetic significance," which Father Louis Phillips will explore in these sessions. The works are: Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, which the pope said can be seen as a desire for unity; Picasso's Guernica, which he said can be seen as the denunciation of dehumanization; and Schindler's List, which Pope Leo said calls us not to consign the past to oblivion.

There will be five opportunities to attend:
