All Saints School students making a difference this holiday season

Students from All Saints School in Bangor will continue their tradition of service on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception by hosting the school's annual "baby shower" for the Blessed Virgin Mary. On Monday, December 9 at 8:30 a.m., the All Saints School community will celebrate Mass for the holy day together at St. John's Church in Bangor. As part of the Mass, students will bring items to be donated to Shepherd's Godparent Home to display in front of the statue of Mary.

"We prepare students to be not only knowledgeable, but also compassionate, respectful, and faith-filled individuals who follow the example of Jesus by serving others, especially those in need," said Johanna Lake, principal of All Saints School.

Following Mass, families will load up donations for delivery. Founded in 1992, Shepherd’s Godparent Home is a free, residential shelter for young women who are pregnant and in crisis, including homeless women. School families have received a list of things the shelter could use, including diapers, blankets, clothing, coloring books and more.

The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception commemorates the day that Mary was conceived without the stain of original sin. The feast occurs on December 8, but in 2024, the celebration is transferred to December 9 because December 8 is a Sunday.
