St. Michael School in Augusta to Hold Rosary Event and May Crowning on Friday
PORTLAND---The Feast of Our Lady of Fatima is May 13, marking the first day in 1917 on which the Blessed Mother appeared to the three shepherd children, Francisco, Jacinta, and Lucia, in Fatima in Portugal.
From May through October 1917, the Lady appeared and spoke to the children on the 13th day of each month. The children recounted that the Virgin told them that God had sent her with a message for every man, woman, and child. She promised that God would grant peace to the entire world if her requests for prayer, reparation, and consecration were heard and obeyed.
In commemoration, St. Michael School in Augusta will hold a special Rosary event and May crowning on Friday, May 12, at 1 p.m.
“Our second graders organize it for the whole school,” said Kevin Cullen, principal at St. Michael. “Grades 2-8 will be at St. Mary of the Assumption Church doing it in person, and it will be live streamed as well so our pre-kindergarteners and first graders can follow along at school.”
Following the Rosary, the students will lead a May Crowning ceremony at the church.
Over 50 Rosary gatherings are planned around Maine to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima on May 13. Check out an updated list in the Month of Mary section on the diocesan website at www.portlanddiocese.org/celebrating-month-mary.
