Fort Kent Parish Offering Lit Wreaths for Deceased Loved Ones in Local Cemeteries; Only 40 Remain
FORT KENT---St. John Vianney Parish in Fort Kent is offering the opportunity for those with deceased loved ones in 10 parish cemeteries to purchase a solar lit “wreath of remembrance” for the winter months.
“The lighted wreaths are blessed and staked in front of the monuments,” said Gale Rioux, office manager for St. John Vianney Parish. “It honors the life of faithful departed. Each wreath is fitted with a solar light at the top shining toward the sky.”
The cost of each wreath is $35, with a limit of one wreath per monument. Over 380 wreaths have been sold with only 40 remaining for purchase.
Community response to the project has been astounding.
“Many people express their joy in driving by the cemeteries and seeing the bright wreaths,” said Rioux. “They are amazed at seeing the wreaths come alive and glowing with lights shining toward the heavens.”
The program is being offered at the following locations:
- St. Louis Cemetery, Fort Kent
- St. Mary Cemetery, Eagle Lake
- St. Joseph Old and New Cemetery, Wallagrass
- Holy Family Cemetery, Daigle
- St. Charles Old and New Cemetery, St. Francis
- St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, St. John Plantation
- Sacred Heart Cemetery, Soldier Pond
- St. Paul Cemetery, Allagash
“The wreath project unites families and brings joy and comfort to them while paying respect and honor to those who have passed,” said Rioux. “During the winter months we do not have access to the cemeteries, but the wreaths and lights remind us to pray for the loved ones we have lost.”
