Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God
Sunday, January 1
The Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God honors the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Theotokos, "the God-bearer," who brings the Son of God into the world.
The solemnity, which is celebrated on New Year's Day, is a holy day of obligation. However, since it falls on a Sunday this year, the obligation will be fulfilled at most parishes through the regular weekend Mass schedule.
You can find a list of Masses by parish here and a listing by city/town here. You can also visit the Parishes/Mass Times section of our website.
