St. Mary’s Ecumenical Food Pantry in Wells Receives $10,000 Donation

WELLS---The Wells Beach Hose Company, a volunteer fire company incorporated in 1922, has donated $10,000 to the St. Mary’s Ecumenical Food Pantry in Wells. The check was presented to pantry volunteers on Thursday, February 24. 

“After 100 years, the company is disbanding. These folks gave so much to all in the Town of Wells and invested funds wisely, which brings us to this wonderful donation to the food pantry,” said Judith Hyotte of Holy Spirit Parish, which includes St. Mary Church in Wells, St. Martha Church in Kennebunk, and All Saints Church in Ogunquit. “They are not only donating this large sum to the food pantry, but are also making donations to a variety of other areas of need in Wells.”

For three decades, the St Mary’s Ecumenical Food Pantry has served local individuals and families in need, funded by individual donations, governmental assistance, local farms and bakeries, and Hannaford.

“Nothing is wasted,” said Hyotte. “These volunteers work tirelessly to rotate stock, load, unload, it is amazing. They work several days a week to ensure that there is food ready for all who need it.”

The food pantry, located at St. Mary Church on 236 Eldridge Road in Wells, is open for all in need each Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. with special dinners and offerings provided over the course of the year. Anyone needing help obtaining food or dealing with any kind of food insecurity is welcome to use the services of the pantry.

If you are able to donate to the food pantry, St. Mary’s currently needs Jell-O, jelly, jam, baked beans, toothpaste, and dish detergent.
