Sister Mary Rush, RSM
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sr. Rose Mary Rush, RSM, who entered into her eternal reward on March 11, 2016, at the youthful age of 96 years, having spent 78 of them as a Sister of Mercy. She will be remembered for her many kindnesses and helpful spirit.
Sister Mary Rose was born in Millinocket on July 29, 1919 and entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1938. She graduated from Saint Joseph’s College and then furthered her education at the University of Maine at Orono and at Boston College.
Sister Rose Mary was an educator and taught at many schools across the state including the Beatrice Raffety School on the Pleasant Point Reservation, Saint Dominic and St. Patrick schools in Portland, St. Teresa in Brewer, St. Mary in Biddeford, St. Athanasius in Rumford, St. Mary in Bangor, the Cathedral School in Portland, St. Joseph in Portland, St. Mary in Houlton, and Holy Cross School in South Portland.
She taught into her 70s and, after retirement, served at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and volunteered at the Good Cause Thrift Shop and at the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen, both in Portland.
Sr. Rose Mary will be waked at Conroy-Tully-Crawford Funeral home in South Portland on Thursday, April 14, 4 to 7 p.m.
The funeral will be at St. Pius X Church, Our Lady of Hope Parish, in Portland at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 15.
Please remember in your prayers Sr. Rose Mary’s religious sisters as well as members of her natural family who mourn her loss.
May her soul and the soul of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
