Sister Claudia Barbre, RSM

Sister Claudia Barbre, a Sister of Mercy, died peacefully at Frances Warde Convent on July 2, 2019.  Sister Claudia was a youthful 92 year old woman who enjoyed life. She was born in Portland on November 19, 1927 and entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1946.  She was a graduate of Cathedral High School and attended Our Lady of Mercy College, the forerunner of Saint Joseph's College of Maine in Standish. She also received a licentiate degree in canon law from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Sister Claudia taught for several years in different schools around the diocese and then served as an advocate and defender of bond in the Diocesan Tribunal.  Sister Claudia was also a member of the Board of Trustees of Mercy Hospital.

Sister Claudia enjoyed being around people and was known for her many humorous stories.  She also loved walks in nature, animals, and time at the ocean.

Funeral: Chapel of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress Street in Portland on Thursday, July 11, at 10 a.m. 
Burial: Calvary Cemetery on Saturday, July 13, at 1 p.m.

May Sister Claudia's soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.
