Father Ernest L'Heureux
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Father Ernest L. L’Heureux who died on Saturday, November 23, 2020, at age 91. Father L’Heureux was a Sanford native, where he graduated from St. Ignatius High School. Following seminary studies at Grand Seminary of St. Sulpice in Montreal, he was ordained a priest in 1962 at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford.
Father L’Heuruex’s parish assignments included the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland, St. Peter in East Millinocket, Notre Dame in Waterville, St. John the Baptist in Winslow, St. Mark in Ashland, St. Joseph in Bridgton, and St. Anne in Gorham, from which he retired from active ministry in 2000. He then continued to assist in the Sanford area for another 15 years until his health no longer allowed.
During his nearly 40 years of active ministry, he also served as chaplain to the Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec and as a hospital chaplain at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Bishop Robert Deeley celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, December 1, at Holy Family Church in Sanford.
