Diocese of Portland Announces Director of Communications

PORTLAND---Bishop Robert Deeley is pleased to announce Molly DiLorenzo as the new director of communications for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland. DiLorenzo comes to the diocese following a 20-year career at Emmanuel College, a Catholic liberal arts and sciences institution in Boston, Mass., where she most recently served as the vice president of college relations. DiLorenzo assumed her new role at the diocese on November 6, 2023.

“The Diocese of Portland is pleased to welcome Molly DiLorenzo to lead its communications efforts,” said Bishop Deeley. "I believe her years of experience with a variety of media, particularly at a Catholic institution, and knowledge of communication strategy will be valuable assets as we continue our work to bring Christ’s message of love and hope to the people of Maine.”

As communications director, DiLorenzo is responsible for developing and executing plans to engage the Catholic community statewide, as well as regionally and nationally. Collaborating across internal departments, parishes, schools, and affiliated ministries, DiLorenzo oversees the communications team in continuing to share the Good News of the Church. She is the primary contact for media members.

“I am honored to join the Diocese of Portland and grateful to Bishop Deeley for the opportunity,” said DiLorenzo. “The Church in Maine is at an important moment in its history, and I look forward to working with many talented, dedicated, and faithful individuals to galvanize the Catholic community.”

At Emmanuel College, DiLorenzo oversaw all aspects of marketing and communications and was responsible for overall messaging and branding. In addition to her role as vice president of college relations, she also managed initiatives related to the year-long celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the college and the founding mission of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.

During her career, DiLorenzo has also worked in media and public relations at two Boston-area agencies.

A native of Yarmouth, DiLorenzo holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and communications from Boston College and a Master of Science degree in management from Emmanuel College.
