Easter basket blessing - Lisbon Falls

The traditional blessing of Easter baskets will be held at Holy Trinity Church in Lisbon Falls on Holy Saturday at 10 a.m.  

People are invited to bring in their baskets, filled with items they are planning to use for their Easter meal, to be blessed. Each of the foods has a spiritual meaning, for instance eggs are a sign of the resurrection and new life, butter recalls Christ's gentleness, Easter bread is a celebration of Christ as the Bread of Life.

The blessing of Easter baskets is a tradition that goes back centuries in countries such as Poland, Ukraine, and Solvakia, among others.
