The Diocese of Portland respects and attempts to protect the privacy of our visitors. At our site, personal, identifiable information is collected from individuals only voluntarily and knowingly.

1. Collection of Information

"Personally identifiable information" is information about a natural person that is readily identifiable to that specific individual. It includes, for example a person's name, street address, email address, fax number, or telephone number. We will not collect any personally identifiable information about you through our web site, unless you voluntarily use our site to send us an e-mail message (such as through our comments and questions page) or fill out an online registration form, such as the registration form for online giving or our e-mail news blast service. The online giving service is operated on our behalf by an outside vendor (Logos Online); any personally identifiable information submitted through that service is governed by the vendor’s Privacy Policy. Our use of personally identifiable information submitted through the online giving service, to the extent it is available to us, is governed by this Policy

For the purpose of improving our web site content, we do collect aggregate information about what pages of the web site are visited. No names, e-mail addresses, or other personally identifiable information is collected in this manner.

2. Cookies

We do not place Internet cookies on visitors’ hard drives. A cookie is a small amount of data that often includes an anonymous unique identifier, which is sent to your browser from a Web site and stored on your computer's hard drive. Each Web site can send its own cookie to your browser.

We will send personal records only to the e-mail or postal mail address on file for the visitor name associated with it.

7. Collection of Identifying Information from Children

We do not attempt to collect identifying information from children. Identifying information sent to us, such as a registration or e-mail, which appears to be from a child, is deleted. We cannot always determine if the sender is a child.

8. Security

While we have instituted security measures to protect the information and systems that we maintain, we cannot guarantee that all transmissions to and from our web sites are secure. Personally identifying information submitted through registration forms for online giving are encrypted using SSL technology. Other communications that you send, such as e-mails, may be subject to interception. If your communication includes personal information that you do not wish to provide electronically, please contact us by postal mail or telephone.
