Vacation Bible Schools 2017

Youngsters will be grounded in the rock-solid foundation of God’s love, discover why we need to care for our common home, take a Bible blast to the past, and go on other adventures during Vacation Bible Schools offered at parishes around the Diocese of Portland this summer. They are a way for youngsters to learn about their faith, while having fun and making new friends.

Below you will find a list of some of the Vacation Bible Schools being offered. Please contact the parish for more information and keep in mind that registration deadlines are often a couple weeks ahead of time so supplies can be ordered.

St. John Vianney Parish, Fort Kent June 19 - 23, 1 to 4 p.m.

“Cathletics! Training to be Champions for Christ” is the theme of a Vacation Bible School that  will be held in the basement of St. Louis Church, 26 East Main Street in Fort Kent. The VBS is open to children in grades kindergarten through 5. The VBS will feature faith, crafts, snacks, music, games, and more! The cost is $30 forone child, $50 for two children, and $70 for a family of three children or more.

St. Mary of Lourdes Parish, Lincoln June 19 - 23, 8:45 a.m. - Noon

Children will hold a Birthday Bash and celebrate the fact that every life matters at a Vacation Bible School, which will be held at St. Mary of Lourdes Church, 142 Main Street in Lincoln.  Children from age 5 to 12 are invited to attend. There is no charge.

Corpus Christi Parish, Waterville June 26 - June 30, 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Take a "Wilderness Adventure through the Sacraments" during a Vacation Bible School, which will be held at St. John Regional Catholic School, 15 South Garand Street in Winslow. Children play games, make crafts, and learn a Bible story. Each day begins and ends in celebration, learning songs that the kids love. The VBS is open to children in grades K-5. There is no charge.

Good Shepherd Parish, Saco June 26 - June 30, 9 a.m. - noon
"Rome - Paul and the Underground Church" will be the theme of a Vacation Bible School held June 26-30 at Most Holy Trinity Church, 271 Main Street in Saco.  The cost is $40/child, $70/two children, $90 for three children, and $10 for each additional children.  Children from Pre-K through Grade 5 are invited to participate and children in grades 6 and up may volunteer.

St. Benedict Parish, Benedicta June 26 - June 30,  9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

"Rome, Paul and the Underground Church" is the theme of a Vacation Bible School that will be offered in the hall of St. Benedict Church, 1043 Benedicta Road in Benedicta. The VBS is open to children in preschool through grade 5. There is no charge to attend

St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, Scarborough June 26 - June 30, 9 a.m. - noon

Curious kids become hands-on inventors who discover they're lovingly crafted by God in the Maker Fun Factory. The Vacation Bible School will be held at Saint Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road in Scarborough, from 9 a.m. to noon. The VBS is open to kids entering grades K-6.

St. Michael Parish, Augusta June 26 - June 30, 8:30 a.m. - Noon

Immerse kids in the vibrant culture of Peru where they discover God’s good gifts for us all, in this Vacation Bible School, which will be held in the St. Michael School gymnasium, 56 Sewall Street in Augusta from 8:30 a.m. to noon. There is a registration fee of $45, which includes at T-shirt, snacks, and other goodies. Registration forms are at the entrances to the church.

St. Paul the Apostle Parish, Bangor June 26 - June 30, 9 a.m. - noon

St. Paul the Apostle Parish will hold a Vacation Bible School the week of June 26-30 at St. Joseph Church, 531 North Main Street in Brewer. The theme is "Totally Catholic Maker Fun Factory - Created by God, Built for a Purpose!"  Children from pre-k to grade 5 are invited to join in the fun. The cost is $10 per child.

St. Peter Chanel Parish, Van Buren June 26 - 30, 9:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.

A Vacation Bible Camp will be held at Sanctuary Caswell on Franck Road in Caswell from June 26-30. The camp is designed to familiarize children with the people and stories of the Bible, to develop a sense of community, and to provide an opportunity for games and other activities. The camp is open to children in grades one - four. There is no charge.

St. Anne Parish, Gorham June 27 - 29, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

St. Anne  Parish in Gorham will host a family peace camp from June 27 - 29. The evening, desgined to be a family experience, begins with a light supper, followed by them setting, outdoor games, crafts, a Bible story, and music.

Parish of the Ascension of the Lord, Kittery July 10-14 and July 17-21, 9 am. to Noon

"Maker Fun Factory, Created by God, Built for a Purpose" will be the theme of a Vacation Bible School offered at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 160 Agamenticus Road in South Berwick from July 10-14 and St. Christopher Church, 4 Barrell Lane in York. Both are 9 a.m. to noon and are open to children from pre-K (accompanied by a parent) to grade 5.  Those in grades 6 and up are invited to participate as cmap helpers.  There is no cost.


Holy Spirit Parish, Wells July 24 - 28, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

"Maker Fun Factory" is the theme of this year's Vacation Bible School, which will be held at St. Martha Church, 31 Portland Road in Kennebunk.  “Maker Fun Factory” is filled with Bible-learning experiences kids see, hear, touch, and even taste! Plus, we’ll help kids discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life – something we call God sightings. Each child will also have the opportunity to participate in a service project.

Parish of the Holy Eucharist, Falmouth July 24 - July 28, 9 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Campers, Hurry to the Launchpad! Take a journey Around the World in 5 Days at this Vacation Bible School. Our hot air balloon takes flight to visit five amazing saints in five countries.  You will receive your very own passport and earn your pilot’s certificate!  You will learn about how these saints put their FAITH, HOPE, and LOVE into action.  Join us for Bible stories, creative crafts, uplifting music & movement, scrumptious snacks, and games. The VBS will be held at St. Jude Church, 134 Main Street in Freeport. The cost is $35/child.  It is open to children entering grades K-5 in the fall.

Portland Peninsula & Island Parishes July 24 - July 27, 9 a.m. - Noon

The Portland Peninsula & Island Parishes will hold a Vacation Bible School from July 24-27 at St. Peter Church, 72 Federal Street in Portland. Children will learn more about caring for our common home with "Earthkeepers - Adventures for Creation Care Kids."  Children in grades kindergarten - five are invited to participate. The cost is $25 per student.

Holy Savior Parish, Rumford August 7 - 11, 9 a.m. to noon

Holy Savior Parish will present a Vacation Bible School at St. Anthanasius & St. John Church, 126 Maine Avenue in Rumford.  The VBS is open to children going into kindergarten – sixth grade. The theme is “The Beatitudes,"   Matthew 5:3-10 - "God blesses those who...realize their need for him."  Youth volunteers in grades 7 and up are also welcome.

St. Matthew Parish, Limerick August 7 - 11, 6 p.m. to 8:20 p.m.

“Camp Out: Getting S’more of Jesus” is the theme of the Vacation Bible School that will be held in the parish hall adjoining Saint Matthew Church, 19 Dora Lane in Limerick.  Children in grades kindergarten and up are invited to participate.  There is no charge.

St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Sanford August 7 - 11, Time TBD

St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish in Sanford presents the “Totally Catholic – Maker Fun Factory” from August 7 – 11 at the parish’s faith formation center located at 10 Payne St. in Springvale. Pre-K through grade 5 campers are invited to participate, and students in older grades are welcome as camp helpers.  The cost is $20 per child.

St. Brendan the Navigator Parish, Camden August 14 - 18, 9 a.m. to Noon

Totally Catholic “Maker Fun Factory” is the theme of a Vacation Bible School that will be held at the Sacred Hart Center at St. Bernard Church, 150 Broadway in Rockland.  The cost is $10 per child, $15 for two children, and $20 for a family of three or more.
