Obituary for Sister Bertha Cormier, SCIM

Sister Bertha Cormier, SCIM

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sr. Bertha Cormier, SCIM, formerly known as Sr. Rita-Marie, who died on Easter Sunday at St. Joseph Convent in Biddeford.  She was 84 years old.

Sister Bertha was born in Van Buren on September 7, 1933, to Joseph Cormier and Leona Cyr Cormier, the twelfth of 13 children.

She entered the Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec (Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary) in 1953 and taught elementary school for 20 years, serving in Catholic schools in Biddeford; Lawerence, Mass.; and Donaldson, Tenn.  She also taught in public schools in Van Buren and Grand Isle.

After her teaching career, she became a school librarian and community bookkeeper.  She will also be remembered for the years she served as hostess at the Bay View Convent.

Please remember in your prayers Sister’s religious and natural families. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.  Amen
